Every picture here has been taken in the southern Kii Peninsula of Japan; in lower Mie, Wakayama, or Nara prefecture. It is an area unknown to many due to it's location at least 3-4 hours from any major city, reached only by twisty mountain roads, elusive bus routes that are some of the longest in the country, or seldom running coastline trains. A lot of the area has no train access at all. Since it includes the most southern point of Japan's main island, it is an area affectionately known by the local foreigners as "the deep south."
Although somewhat inaccessible, if you do manage to find yourself here, most of the tourist attractions are free and practically the entire area is designated as a World Heritage Site for its ancient temples (Kumano Sanzan) and pilgrimage route (Kumano Kodo). Not to mention it's beautiful. And that is why it is our secret paradise.
I try to post as much information as I can with each picture since I know it's hard to get specifics about these places in English sometimes. But if you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask.
